Don’t Ban Those Wireless Thieves, Screw With Em!

For those of you out there running unprotected wireless networks at home, wireless thieves are always a concern. And if they’re not a concern, well… you may wanna question why it takes 10 minutes for the Google home page to load.

Whether it’s the neighbor next door or some random wardriver, these jerks can be huge bandwidth hogs. Regardless of whether they’re just checking their email or serving up their whole ripped DVD collection, the result is the same. But before you cut em off cold turkey, have a little fun with em. Let em know you’re onto them and that you don’t appreciate it.

Pete Stevens now brings you, among other things, the Upside-Down-Ternet. This fun little trick does require some basic knowledge of how to administrate your wireless router, but the results are quite humorous. So if you suspect your wireless signal is being used by somebody other than yourself, serve em up some Upside-Down-Ternet.

Another Installment Of: Need Something To Do?

The only words I can really come up with to describe this web riddle are “HOLY CRAP!”

You’ve gotta be a friggin’ genius to make it through more than a few of the steps to this riddle. I actually made it to step 6 before I started getting really stumped. Of course I was playing at work so I couldn’t really give it the attention it deserved, but still.

If you’ve got a few days of your life to waste or if you’re just looking for a creative way to have a meltdown, click below to participate in the self-proclaimed “hardest riddle available on the internet“.

And How Do You Plan To Get There…?

A Portal you say?

Well that sounds like a right fine idea, it does.

Howsa bout a little demonstration?

Well I’ll be. Those kids at Valve sure seem to know what they’re doing. And now I have one more title to add to my “Crap! I gotta wait HOW long?” list.

New fans in the old system

Well, I mucked up the pictures, but I did a little work on the old system today. I moved the main tower into the bedroom (that’s my silver Lian Li case). While trying to sleep, I realized the thing is actually a little noisy with the fans I had in it. Well, I replaced my case fans with these Arctic Cooling 80x38mm fans from SVC, and I replaced my stock CPU cooler with this Silent Whisper cooler by Sunbeam. For as cheap as these things were, WOW, it’s a lot quieter. I think one of the keys is the isolation on the case fans. Now the loudest thing in there is the chipset cooler (I really hate those things), so that’s the next adjustment.

Oh, not only is the noise down, but I’m about 4 degrees C cooler than I was stock. So far so good for a $20 CPU cooler.

Day of Defeat: Source Free Weekend Reloaded!

What was that? You say you missed the first Day of Defeat: Source free weekend?

You say you’ve never played it?

Well, I guess its your lucky day… er… lucky weekend. Valve, in an effort to assimilate educate the masses on some of those community Source mods that they now offer as retail add-ons, are letting you play this one for free all weekend. This game normally sells for $20 through steam, but from July 7th to July 10th, you can play for FREE!!

Game Overview:
Think Counter-Strike between allied forces and zee Germans. The gameplay mode is more “Unreal Tournament: Assault”-ish where you have to control points on the map rather than kill rescue hosties, but it still obviously feels like Counter-Strike: Source because its the same game engine.
