Half Life 2 Rocks! (get it?)

Well, you probably don’t get it yet, but you will once you watch the video below. This is a fun little ipod-esque garry’s mod mashup that gets the foot tappin’ and the HL2 juices flowin’. I NEED EPISODE 2 NOW! But I guess I’ll just have to go home and play through episode 1 again. -sigh-

Anyway… enjoy this fun little “stomp” through Gordons world.

Totally Pwned! (Even More PS3 Pwnage)

All the PS3 hating has got to taper off at some point. But until it does, I plan to keep mining sweet gems like this from the Sony hater motherload that is YouTube:

They make a valid argument.

UPDATE: I just found a, uhhh… “response” to this video on Youtube, but it really only goes to further prove that Sony fanboys are just gun totin’, lollipop stealin’ morons. You can see the video here: be warned that they felt the need to use several vulgarities in voluminous amounts to get their point across.

A Blast From The Past… Kinda

This is probably the coolest keyboard mod I’ve ever seen (not that I’ve seen a whole lot of em, but still). Keyboards seem to be somewhat neglected in the mod scene, but I think its mostly due to the fact that people don’t wanna mess with their main interface tool. If you get too tricky, I would imagine that the usefulness tends to go downhill fast. That being said, I’m not sure how “useful” this particular keyboard would be. There’s a video on the build page (here’s a mirror) showing the keyboard being used effectively to touch type, but I wonder how well it would work during an intense Counter Strike session. It’d sure look purty while playing some Bioshock though.

Totally Pwned! (Kirk Vs. Robot Chicken)

Here is yet another of my totally useless posts to add to the ever growing collection. Zarch got me in a bit of a Star Trek mood with the last post, so I figured I’d add to it by sharing my latest YouTube find. It’s pretty much impossible to deny the hilarity of Robot Chicken. Seth Green and friends are truly amazing.

Captain Kirk Is Teh Cool

That’s right, this is how it would go down if it ever went down.  The Star Trek universe is made up of all those smart guys at MIT and Stanford, whereas the typical dude in Star Wars is a guy like me, flying the equivalent of a Caprice Classic with lasers.  The guys over at SomethingAwful have another one of their fun photo-chop posts, so I’d say take a look for more like this.  Which reminds me of Rudeboy’s Jeep, for some reason.  He’s made some special modifications himself, and not necessarily so it will make 0.5 past light speed.

The Crossing Revealed

A couple weeks ago I posted a blurb about the upcoming Source based game called The Crossing. At the time I wasn’t exactly sure what made this game so different from other fps games other than the fact that it supposedly was a blending between single player and multi-player gameplay. Well, we now have some additional information and I can say that I’m even more excited than I was before. The concept sounds pretty sweet if it works as well as they seem to think that it will. And I’m definitely stoked by the prospect of co-op play. I think that’s one area that’s severely lacking in most fps games. Luckily, it sounds like we’ll have a few co-op fps’s in the next couple years. Woot!

Anyway, watch the clip below for a more in-depth explanation of what we can expect in the upcoming game The Crossing:

Garmin eTrex Venture Cx Review

Well, I didn’t see a ton of reviews out there for this gadget when I was shopping, so I thought I’d post my thoughts in case others were interested.  So far, I’ve had it for a day or so, and I’m pleased.

The eTrex Venture Cx is the entry level mapping GPS from Garmin.  The C means it’s a color screen, and the x means expandable memory, in this case through microSD cards.  The next one up the totem pole is the Legend Cx, which includes a 32mb memory card.  First thing I planned on doing was adding a 1gb card anyway, so that wasn’t an appeal.  I lingered on the Vista Cx for a while, since it includes a barometric altimeter and an electronic compass.  Then I got my senses back and realized GPS altitude is perfectly fine for my uses, and I have a great compass anyway, and a decent sense of direction.  Besides, I can walk a few steps and the Venture will give me a heading.  No USB cable is included, but it uses a standard mini cable.  I’ve got about 15 of those around my desk, so no problem.  These can power the Venture Cx when it’s plugged into your computer, or in my case, plugged into the USB power adapter in my car.

Let’s talk features.  The Venture Cx lacks a SIRFstar III chip, but it does include WAAS.  I got a decent fix (up to six satellites) in my home, a one-story ranch in the suburbs.  Driving around the neighborhood seemed accurate enough, Continue reading ‘Garmin eTrex Venture Cx Review’

Tim Buckley Cracks Me Up

Every now and then, Tim over at Ctrl+Alt+Del hits on that over-the-top sort of humor that any Mel Brooks fan can appreciate. On these occasions I can’t help but find myself laughing out loud (much to the confusion of my co-workers).

Today’s comic is another example of that. Having never played the game he’s poking fun at, I’d say that the comic is really only mildly funny on the whole. But the obsurdity of the situation depicted in the panel to right just cracks me up. Placed in a similar situation, any of us might ask ourselves… “WHY DO I EVEN HAVE THAT?!”

Maybe it’s just me, but I think that if you don’t find this even just a little funny, then you’re stupid. So there.

Ten Worst iPod Accessories

I’m an iPod owner.  I know.  It makes me a little sick inside too.  For the record, the iPod is currently my #3 mp3 player, behind a Toshiba GigaBeat S60 and a SanDisk Sansa e260.  Still, I own an iPod nano 2nd Gen, silver, the cheap one.  My reasons (short list) include the very simple podcasting, Audible support, and strong accessory support.  Example – it was easy to find a cable the provided a USB plug and a line out so I can charge and have line-level input to my car stereo.

Which brings us to the subject of today’s post.  I stumbled on a list of the ten worst iPod accessories.  I suppose one would have to try the iBuzz (link probably NSFW) to really decide if it belongs on this list or not.  Anyone out there own something on that list and feel like commenting on it?

Robots Are Cool

We’re all vaguely aware that we’ll all someday end up as subservient pets to our robot overlords. But until then, it’s fun to be in control and able to make these little guys do whatever the heck we please.
