Good thing there’s a site like DSIcons.com to assist those of us who are less apt at creating anything other than a pixel blob in the icon editor. As the picture to the right shows, the instructions are pretty decent at helping you create that perfect car badge to help you express who you really are deep down inside.

There’s probably close to 50 free badges over at the site as well as several more packs that you can pay for (not sure why you would though with all those free ones to choose). I’ve tried a few of them out and they all look pretty decent in-game. So head on over and make everyone think that you have icon skillz.

One could easily make the argument that Ben Heckendorn is something like a modern day Michelangelo. His creations could easily be considered works of art, many of them on par with the Sistine Chapel (to us geeks anyway). However, there are others out there that have some mad hardware hax0ring skillz as well. Take, for instance, the following example:

Although not nearly as svelte as something Ben might have come up with, you have to give credit to the industrious young creator of this Gameboy PC. You can click the picture for the full gallery of this amazing creation as well as a description (if you can read Japanese). As you can see in the pictures, the screen was removed to make room for the guts, but even without a screen, it’s pretty impressive.

Apparently this tiny machine runs Windows XP off a 4gb flash card that slides into the game slot. It also sports 2 usb ports, a built in nic and a vga port (so you can connect a monitor to compensate for the lack of a built-in screen). I’m sure the video specs aren’t anything to get excited about, but just imagine taking a pc that size to a lan party….

“Dude… where’s your machine?”

“In my pocket.”

“Heh… not THAT machine. I was talking about your computer.”

“I’m not kidding… it’s right here.”

<pulls Gameboy PC from pocket>

The group then collectively gasps and someone can be heard to say in a near whisper…

“woot!”

Sorry about the lack of posts lately (as if anyone out there really gives a shiz). I’ve been in the middle of changing jobs over the past few weeks and haven’t had too much extra time for blogging. However, I did run across this super cool DS lite mod yesterday over at DS Fanboy and knew immediately that I had to pass it along.

 The gold plated DS (I’m gonna assume its just gold paint) that you see to the left is the creation of an obviously fanatical Zelda fan, but it’s difficult not to respect those mad modding skillz. You can click the pic for the full gallery, but apparently the die-cast crest actually swivels to maintain proper orientation so that it’s always right-side up. The insides are painted to match as well as both of the stylus and the charging dock. It truly is a creation that Gannon himself would lust after.

Usually a DS Lite such as this would be out of reach for most of us mere mortals who lack the modding skills to create such a masterpiece. Never fear though… this particular DS Lite is being auctioned off on eBay for the Penny Arcade Child’s Play charity. So if you’re not opposed to spending waaaay too much for a shiny gold DS Lite which will make you the envy of all your friends, head on over to eBay and place your bid. (current bid as of this posting is $660 so you gotta want it real bad)

So my bro picked up Marvel: Ultimate Alliance for his Wii this past week. I had heard lots of good things about this game so I figured it was a pretty safe bet, but to be honest, I was a tad concerned that the Wii controls would “get in the way” of the gameplay for this type of game. Sure they work well with Wii sports, but Ultimate Alliance is not a first party title designed with the Wiimote in mind. Would the controls feel solid or just tacked on?

Well, after about 2 hours of super hero smashing action, I sorrowfully regret… that I ever doubted the power of the Wii. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is a dang fun game (regardless of the control scheme) and I actually don’t feel that the game was hindered at all by the use of the Wiimote. Now, to be fair, I haven’t played this game on any other platform so it’s hard to provide a true comparison, but based on the criteria I use for any other game (was it fun?), I can truly say that I’m a fan.

True, the Wii version is not the prettiest iteration of this game, but as long as you’re not playing it side by side with the 360 version, it’s plenty good looking. And the controls were intuitive and solid. Push the Wiimote forward to perform a knockback attack. A swift flick upward and you perform a high attack. Need a better angle on the action, tilt the nunchuck in the direction you wish to turn the camera (this one is ingenious btw). After about 10 minutes of “warm-up” I was completely immersed and kicking some major super villian butt. Now I just have to get my hands on 3 more friends who own Wiimotes so we can go all multi-player.

It seems that there has been a slip-up at Nintendo headquarters (or at least at the printing company that produces the Wii safety manuals). Apparently when the manuals were being put together, a few pages were accidentally left out. Lucky for us, some intrepid flickr user was able to get their hands on the missing pages and they have posted images of the missing warnings for us.

Although you may not need to be warned against the dangers of using your new Wii as a parachute, did you also know that your Wii will not double as a toaster? Just to be safe, I suggest you check out the remaining warnings before your end up accidentally feeding your Mowg-Wii after midnight. The dangers of improper Wii usage are real people!
