WARNING!!!: The following post will reduce your productivity by exactly 76.284%.

Generally speaking, I’m not huge on flash games. For the most part, if I want to play a casual game, I turn to my trusty DS. However, every now and then I come across a flash game that intrigues me and I bookmark it in case I want to play again some time. Over the past few weeks I’ve gathered up a few of these links and I thought I’d do my part to make you as unproductive as possible. As with most flash games, these won’t keep you entertained long, but they can be a nice diversion during a long work day. So without further ado… and in no particular order:

1. Our first flash adventure is called Spaceworms. This game bares very little resemblance to the worms game we’ve all come to know and love (or loathe), but at it’s heart, its still just directing a “worm”-ish thing around the screen. In this case, however, you’re trying to avoid asteroid type objects that seem to be gravitationally drawn to you. The learning curve isn’t too steep, but I promise that you’ll loose almost instantly the first 5 or 6 times you try it. I don’t want to give too much of a hint, but we’ll just call this the “Barry Sanders” game.

2. Game number 2 is what you might call a flash masterpiece. This one is called
Makibishi Comic and it is quite something to behold. This game has a very manga type art style and the gameplay is quite deep. Unlike most flash games, this one has a story line and several main characters. It is mostly a point-n-click type adventure, but finding the right thing to click is a matter of research and discovery. I can’t say that I’ve made it too far through this game yet, but I can still recommend trying it out if only just to see how pretty it is. Flash really can be pretty amazing.

3. Game 3 is called Game, Game, Game and Again Game. As the title might suggest, this one is a bit random. In fact, this one might be considered more of a psychiatric evaluation than a casual flash game. The point of the game is to get a small hairy looking ball into the door located on the page. The logic used to accomplish this can be quite “messed up” though. It’s definitely not intuitive and by no means does it make any sense, but it is challenging. And if you happen to be one of those that enjoys being boggled by reasonless web games, give it a try.

4. This game is basically the flash-web spawn of a WarioWare title. The name of the game is Four Second Firestorm and that’s exactly what it is. Basically, you are assaulted with multiple 4 second long mini-challenges which range from simply hovering your mouse over the correct region to “shooting” all of a particular item on the screen. Most of the games are quite easy, but a few are a bit more challenging. This one is definitely high on the “time-waster” warning meter though. Even though each mini-game is only 4 seconds, as soon as you complete one challenge, you’re immediately whisked to the next. They pretty much don’t stop coming unless you give up. It’s very easy to fall into the ever dangerous “just one more” trap. Consider yourself warned.

5. The last game on today’s list is called Arrow Golf and it’s quite clever. In this game you play as a small kitten with a bow and arrow. You begin at one end of a “course” and at the other end is a large red target. The goal, as you might assume, is to get your arrow into the target in the defined number of “strokes”. The trick to this game, however, is that your arrow is tied to the leg of your poor kitty. As soon as you release your shot, your furry friend gets yanked off the ground to trail after the arrow he just fired. This does save the time it would normally take to walk down the fairway and find your arrow, but there is the potential animal cruelty issue you’ll have to morally justify.

Well, that’s the list for today. As I continue to find more of these, I’ll probably make more posts. Or not. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

I was a tad bored at work today. Just not much going on. I mean sure, there’s probably stuff I could be doing, but darned if I could think of what it was. So off to the trusty old internet I go.

To expound a little on my post from a couple days ago, one of the webcomics I frequent is called Extra Life. The author, Scott Johnson, is a fellow Utahn and seems to share my avid love of games. I must admit that I’ve <s>stolen</s> borrowed experts from his comics before, but hopefully this little shout-out will redeem me of my past infringements. Anyway… I was cruising through his blog and came across a fun little flash game called 3D Logic. Long story short, my day got a little less boring.

My thanks go out to Scott for directing my random web binge to something less mind-numbing. And as a result I’ve decided to share with you, the loyal ModStomp fans. <busts out in full-on side-splitting laughter at the thought of anyone besides himself actually reading this entry> I’ve decided to compile a short list of flash games that don’t blow and posting them in a single location so you, the reader <chuckle>, won’t have to take the time to find them yourself. Simply click on the new link in the left-hand nav called Fun Flash Games to view the list I’ve compiled so far. And if you know of a few games that aren’t stupid, leave a comment and I’ll add em to the list (after I’ve verified their non-stupidness).

To get you started off right, click on the pic to try out 3D Logic for yourself.
