Nerd Movie Alert!

Thought I’d pass along some information on a couple movies that are in the works. Both movies could either be complete awesomeness or they could both intensely suck. It’ll be interesting to see what the studios do with them. Anyway…

1. Tron 2 – Apparently Disney studios decided it would be a good idea to remake Tron. Which means that it’s not technically Tron 2, but Tron the remake. Obviously current CG technology will make this movie look absolutely amazing, but is it really such a good idea to mess with a classic? Especially a mediocre classic. More info HERE.

2. Voltron – That’s right folks… live action Voltron. This is another movie that I’m sure will look incredible with today’s technology (Transformers anyone?). But we’ll see if they can come up with a story line that doesn’t blow. I’ll see it either way because, well… GIANT ROBOT LIONS!!! I mean, how can you argue with that? You can read about it HERE.

Star Wars – The Musical

Supurb! Stupendous! Fantasmastical!

Just a few of the words I could think of to describe Star Wars – The Musical. Why didn’t Lucas think of this?

That opening sequence KILLS ME!!! “Red 5 standing byyyyyyyy!”

Voltron is Coming…

For all those of you who were wondering when Hollywood would get around to making a live action Voltron movie… wonder no longer.

TmZ reports that a Voltron movie is in the works and although it will most likely be crap, it will be fun to see those tenacious kids ride their robotic lions to victory over Prince Lotor’s minions. So in preparation for what will most likely be a steaming pile of cg, here’s a fun Robot Chicken sketch that really touches on the most important undercurrent of the whole Voltron franchise… giant robots composed of several lion robots are great for winning dance competitions!

Welcome To The Kwik-E-Mart

You’ve probably heard about the new seven-eleven/Simpson’s Movie promotion that will be converting a few sev locations into real live Kwik-E-Marts… well, here’s the proof. I have no idea where this 7-11 location is, but then… I have no idea where Springfield is either.

Click Here to see the entire Flickr gallery which includes shots of the ice freezer (which contains a chilly Jasper Beardly), the Squishy machine, shelves full of Buzz Cola and Krusty O’s Cereal as well as several life-size Simpson’s characters loitering around the store.

Pretty clever promo if you ask me.

Nerdtacular Spidey 3 Event

Yesterday morning was the ExtraLife.com Nerdtacular Spiderman 3 event and it was awesome. It was a whole theater full of local ExtraLife fans (mostly from Utah) and one fan that traveled all the way from Tennessee to attend. Scott Johnson, ExtraLife.com creator and webcomic mastermind, was a great host providing free Spiderman comics (cause it was national free comic day), sweet ExtraLife.com t-shirts and other fun prizes including Nintendo shaped candy and World of Warcraft booster card packs.

One of the best things about this event was the size. We filled out a whole theater, but the atmosphere was still quite personal. I got to spend a few minutes chatting with Scott and you could tell he was pretty excited by the turnout. I didn’t want to take too much of his time because I knew he was busy, but he still took the time to walk my wife and I to our seats. What a guy. He also put his mad comic skillz to good use by drawing up some custom collectible tickets for the event:

My Spider Sense Is Tingling…

Well, tomorrow morning is the ExtraLife.com Spider-Man 3 event. Zarch and I are pretty stoked to be able to attend and we plan to grab some pics to stick in the gallery for ya. It sounds like Scott Johnson has put together a pretty fun event with prizes and custom artwork giveaways. I’m sure it’ll be an uber-geekfest and it’s always exciting to attend an event like this with others of your own kind. I’ve been pretty excited to see this flick, but I’ve managed to keep myself “unspoiled” prior to tomorrow’s showing. I wanted to be sure that I “saved” myself so that tomorrow’s show would be my “first time”.

I’ll share my thoughts on the flick as well as some pics of the event sometime this weekend. Hopefully I can get a shot with the host. =)

Dorkman Strikes Back

For those that haven’t seen the original…

Original Dorkman Vs Ryan post

For those that have seen it, here’s the second episode in this dramatic saga. The evil Lord Dorkman has returned and Ryan (I suppose he’s the good guy) is the only one who can put an end to his maniacal plot. This is truly Star Wars nerdery at it’s finest. And to be honest, Lucas probably could have used these guys while making the most recently trilogy. Their choreography is pretty decent and their dialog is much better than anything Lucas came up with…

“Mesa day startin pretty okee-day with a brisky morning munchy, then BOOM!”… WTF?

Anyway… enjoy the film.

Captain Kirk Is Teh Cool

That’s right, this is how it would go down if it ever went down.  The Star Trek universe is made up of all those smart guys at MIT and Stanford, whereas the typical dude in Star Wars is a guy like me, flying the equivalent of a Caprice Classic with lasers.  The guys over at SomethingAwful have another one of their fun photo-chop posts, so I’d say take a look for more like this.  Which reminds me of Rudeboy’s Jeep, for some reason.  He’s made some special modifications himself, and not necessarily so it will make 0.5 past light speed.
