Yesterday morning was the ExtraLife.com Nerdtacular Spiderman 3 event and it was awesome. It was a whole theater full of local ExtraLife fans (mostly from Utah) and one fan that traveled all the way from Tennessee to attend. Scott Johnson, ExtraLife.com creator and webcomic mastermind, was a great host providing free Spiderman comics (cause it was national free comic day), sweet ExtraLife.com t-shirts and other fun prizes including Nintendo shaped candy and World of Warcraft booster card packs.
One of the best things about this event was the size. We filled out a whole theater, but the atmosphere was still quite personal. I got to spend a few minutes chatting with Scott and you could tell he was pretty excited by the turnout. I didn’t want to take too much of his time because I knew he was busy, but he still took the time to walk my wife and I to our seats. What a guy. He also put his mad comic skillz to good use by drawing up some custom collectible tickets for the event:

As for the movie, I was pretty impressed. There were a few small things that urked me a bit, but overall, I thought it was very well done (as usual). Let me put a small spoiler warning here for those that haven’t seen it yet, but I’m going to point out a few of the things that bugged me about it:
1) They should have made Spidey’s black outfit match the classic black suit from the comics. I’m sure it was a design decision that was made for some reason, but I would have liked to see the classic suit instead of just a blacked out version of his red and blue one. Even if they had only used that version for Venom. Just my opinion though.
2) I had a hard time believing that Harry’s mind would be so easily changed by his butler. That scene just felt a bit tacked-on to me like they were taking the easy way out. I mean, Harry has been hell-bent on killing Peter for quite a while now, but a brief 30 second conversation with the butler is enough to change his mind? I don’t buy it.
3) MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!!! Don’t keep reading if you haven’t seen the movie and wish to keep it secret until you do…
Venom can’t die! I mean… what the hell? He’s THE BIGGEST Spiderman villain since The Green Goblin and he’s only in the show for like 30 minutes. To be honest, I was totally expecting a set up for Spiderman 4 with his emergence, but instead they decide to get rid of him. It’s just wrong. Deep down, I’m hoping that he somehow survived that blast and that he’ll make a return (not sure how long they’ll try to keep the franchise alive), but I must say that I was quite disappointed.
Those were really the only parts that bugged me though and it wasn’t enough to change my overall opinion about the movie. I really did love it. And being at this fun event just made it even better.
I just want to throw out one more thanks to Scott Johnson and his sponsors for a great time. Zarch and I both had fun and we even got a picture with Scott after the movie (that’s Zarch on the left, Scott in the middle and Rudeboy on the right).

You can head on over to ExtraLife.com for a few more pictures and Scott’s thoughts on the event.

Man…that fat guy in the middle in the red shirt is HAWT!!!
FOSHIZZLE!
Too bad the picture is ruined by the other two doofs in the shot.
